IronQuest: The Dollar Club

IronQuest: BBC Dollar Club

I am one of the “founding members” of The Dollar Club program at Burlington Baptist Church.  The Dollar Club asks people to give just one dollar each week.  Then at the end of the month, we give 100% of that money away to a family in need or who is just going through a rough patch.  This is done completely anonymously.

In the interest of being good stewards, we provide the entire church with a year in review.  Historically, I did all the calculations in Excel and presented it via PowerPoint.  In all honestly, it was a pain.  So this year, I figured why not just do it in Tableau and couple that with IronQuest where the topic is business dashboards.

So, the dashboard you see here shows actual figures related to our Dollar Club.  It’s nothing fancy, but it sure crushes Excel / PowerPoint.

As always, feel free to reach out to me at any time if you every have questions.

  1. Hi Kevin I started following you and Sarah to learn more abut this way of data analysis so you may here more from me going forward. I am super new to Tableau and to what you can do with it, therefore I am way below the beginner level; with that being said, I wonder how do you collect the data and manipulate it? Is it still in excel? I use a very similar version of your chart through excel using slicers, is it similar to that?

    1. I’m happy to help you however I can. In this case, yes. The data is in Excel. However, when doing this at work, we almost always connect directly to our SQL server database.

Feel free to reach in any way. My information is at the end of this blog post and you can easily reach me on LinkedIn and Twitter. Just direct message me.
